Literacy Achieves is a Dallas-based nonprofit that helps adults learning English and their young children build literacy and life skills. Founded in 1997 as Vickery Meadow Learning Center, the organization operates campuses in Vickery Meadow, West Dallas, and East Dallas and serves about 1,200 adults and 330 children each year, with all programs at no cost. By removing barriers such as time, transportation, childcare, and finances, it aims to support self-sufficiency and community well-being. Adult English instruction spans multiple proficiency levels and times of day, combining classroom and computer-based learning. The program runs a two-generation model with an Early Childhood Education Program for children aged 4 months to 5 years, provided only when a parent or caregiver is enrolled in the adult program.
