Liverpool John Lennon Airport is one of the UK's longest established operational airports, first opening in 1933, serving the Liverpool region. It lies seven miles southeast of Liverpool city centre, adjacent to the River Mersey, and is part of The Peel Group; Liverpool City Council took a stake in 2016 to support regional gateway ambitions. The airport handles more than 4.8 million passengers annually and provides flights to over 60 destinations across the UK and Europe. In the past two years, 22 new services to 20 destinations were announced, increasing weekly flight activity by about 100. In June 2026, Clive Condie was appointed chair to oversee Liverpool Airport Limited.
