Founded in 1981, the Louisiana Museum Foundation operates as a fundraising organization that supports the museums and collections within the Louisiana State Museum system. Its work focuses on preserving, presenting, and promoting Louisiana's history and culture, including sites such as the Cabildo, Presbytere, New Orleans Jazz Museum at the Old U.S. Mint, Madame John's Legacy, and the 1850 House. It provides support and services to these institutions and their archives to help maintain public access to artifacts and treasures. The foundation also implements programming to bring history to life, ranging from period costume balls and exhibition openings to historical performances, reenactments, and educational field trips for members and the public. Based in New Orleans, Louisiana, the organization operates with a small team. In 2022, Kristin Shannon was named executive director.
