Loyola College is a Catholic minority higher education institution located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, founded in 1925 by the Society of Jesus (Jesuits). It began with 75 students across three undergraduate programs—Mathematics, History, and Economics—and later became autonomous in 1978 while remaining affiliated to the University of Madras. The college has been recognized by the UGC as a College with Potential for Excellence (awarded in 2004 and reaffirmed in 2010) and received NAAC accreditation with a CGPA of 3.70 in 2012; it was designated a College of Excellence for 2014–2019. It currently offers 19 undergraduate and 19 postgraduate programs across arts, sciences, and commerce, along with 12 special institutes, serving about 12,107 students. The institution lists a workforce between 1,001 and 5,000 employees, with 286 teaching staff (of whom 117 hold doctoral degrees) and 182 non-teaching staff.
