Luca Technologies operates in the oil and gas sector, applying biotechnology to subsurface hydrocarbon deposits by stimulating native microorganisms to bioconvert reservoirs into methane. The resulting gas is produced from existing wells and delivered to the natural gas market through the region's pipeline network. In its initial phase, the company concentrates activity in the Powder River Basin, where it owns and operates more than 1,350 wells, with plans to acquire additional wells and extend its footprint to other basins in the US and internationally.

Founded in 2003 and based in Golden, Colorado, Luca is structured as a mid-sized company. Its leadership team brings a blend of scientific, operational and managerial expertise across microbiology, chemistry and biochemistry, engineering, geosciences, and traditional exploration and production to guide its activities.
