The Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts is one of Switzerland's seven universities of applied sciences, founded in 1997. It comprises several schools focused on Engineering and Architecture, Business, Information Technology, Social Work, Design, Film and Art, and Music. Based in Luzern in the Lucerne region of central Switzerland, the institution serves as a major educational hub for the area. The university carries out its mandate across four core activities: education, continuing and executive education, applied research and development, and services. It enrolls more than 6,200 degree-seeking students and more than 4,500 participants in continuing education, supported by a wide national and international network and by six cantons: Lucerne, Uri, Schwyz, Obwalden, Nidwalden, and Zug. In June 2026, it partnered with Swiss Economics to develop a model for the systematic assessment of the environmental impact of blockchain applications.
