As a fraternal benefit society, originally founded by Portuguese immigrants in 1868 as the Portuguese Protective and Benevolent Association, we firmly hold on to our roots, which can be best described per our mission statement: ”To be the premier provider of life insurance, financial and fraternal services to individuals and families in the Luso-American Communities.” We do this by offering competitive financial products and services not only to our Members, but also to their friends and neighbors. Our fraternal branches, the Luso-American Fraternal Federation, the Portuguese Continental Union, the Sociedade Portuguesa Rainha Santa Isabel and the Luso-American Education Foundation are charged with the responsibility of promoting the civic, cultural, educational, social and fraternal activities of the Society. Incorporating the needs of all of our Members from ages 0 to 100, we offer programs to cater to our Youth, our young adults and our long-time Members. In short, we are a world of Family, Fraternal ideals and Brotherhood – an idea that is now more important and relevant than ever. As an incorporated organization recognized under the laws of the State of California, Luso-American’s purpose is to provide fraternal services, life insurance, and annuity plans and to prudently administer the Society’s assets.
