Maine Equal Justice Partners is a nonprofit legal services organization based in Augusta, Maine, that pursues economic security and fair opportunity through civil legal services and economic justice work. It serves residents of Maine, focusing on issues that affect daily life such as access to health care, income and food security, supports for working families, and higher education and training opportunities. The organization operates with a small to mid-sized staff and concentrates on helping low-income Mainers navigate legal and systemic barriers to secure essential needs and opportunities. In 2019, Maine Equal Justice Partners helped launch an online tool designed to encourage low-income residents to file taxes in order to qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit and other credits that support family finances. The group also participated in a 2018 initiative to reduce childhood poverty in Maine, collaborating with the Maine Community Foundation and the Maine State Chamber of Commerce.
