Marquis Studios is a Brooklyn-based nonprofit founded in 1977 by David Marquis that brings arts education into New York City public schools. Its model relies on long-term residencies led by teaching artists that deliver multicultural arts experiences across all five boroughs. Each year the organization directly serves about 25,000 children through roughly 400 residencies, contributing to a broader reach of more than 550,000 students, 30,000 teachers, and 20,000 parents in NYC schools. About 80 percent of its programs serve students at or below the federal poverty level, and more than half of grant-funded programming occurs in classrooms serving students with disabilities. The organization has earned recognition from the National Endowment for the Arts and was noted as a vital contributor to NYC arts education in the 2019 Arts in Schools Report.
