The Maryland Bankers Association, based in Annapolis, Maryland, is a trade association serving the state’s banking sector since 1896. As the only Maryland-based organization representing banks and thrifts, its member institutions collectively employ tens of thousands of professionals and hold the vast majority of FDIC-insured deposits across about 1,700 branches. The MBA functions as a legislative and regulatory advocate at all levels of government and serves as the public relations voice for Maryland banks, alongside providing professional development and financial education to members and the wider community. Its activities are organized around five mission areas: advocacy, communications and public relations, professional development and education, financial education, and vendor products and services. A recent development includes a partnership with the University of Maryland's Smith School of Business to launch a statewide Banking Fellows Program designed to prepare high-achieving undergraduates for banking careers.
