The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) is a bi-county government agency in the Government Administration sector serving Montgomery and Prince George's Counties, with offices at 6611 Kenilworth Avenue, Riverdale, Maryland 20737, United States. Created with the empowerment of the State of Maryland in 1927, the agency is charged with acquiring, developing, maintaining and administering a regional park system and providing land use planning for the two counties. In 1970 the agency gained responsibility for the public recreation program in Prince George's County. The governing body consists of 10 members, five appointed by each county, and members from each county serve as separate Planning Boards to facilitate review and administration of county-specific matters while the Commission coordinates issues of mutual interest. M-NCPPC administers a park system of more than 52,000 acres, including stream valley, regional, neighborhood parks and park-school recreation areas, supported by planners, park and recreation administrators, park police, and administrative staff along with seasonal workers. Its mission is to manage physical growth and plan communities, protect natural, cultural and historic resources, and provide leisure and recreational experiences.
