Masdar Institute of Science and Technology is a not-for-profit, private graduate university established by the government of Abu Dhabi to develop indigenous research and development capacity. Located in Masdar City, Abu Dhabi, it pursues energy and sustainability challenges through a multidisciplinary approach that integrates technology, systems thinking, and policy considerations.

In collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the institute has built an academic and research platform focused on critical energy and sustainability issues. It prioritizes external partnerships with industry, government, and other academic institutions to tackle complex real-world problems from integrated technology, systems, and policy perspectives. The institution offers graduate programs across engineering and related fields and maintains external collaborations, such as a 2018 partnership with SatelliteProMe.
