The Massachusetts Municipal Association (MMA) is a private, nonpartisan nonprofit that represents cities and towns in Massachusetts and serves as their collective voice on policy and local service delivery. For about four decades it has worked to unite municipal officials to develop unified policy, advocate before state institutions, and support efficient municipal services, guided by a 35-member Board of Directors drawn from across the state. Based in Boston, MMA organizes more than 60 seminars, conferences, workshops, and trainings annually, and its Annual Meeting and Trade Show in January is the largest gathering of municipal officials in New England. The association publishes the Beacon, the Municipal Advocate, and the Massachusetts Municipal Directory, and includes member groups such as the Massachusetts Mayors Association, Massachusetts Municipal Management Association, Massachusetts Selectmen Association, Massachusetts Municipal Councillors Association, and the Association of Town Finance Committees, along with affiliated bodies. A recent development is a partnership announced in December 2025 with Syncurrent to help municipalities identify and pursue state and federal funding opportunities.
