Matanuska Electric Association, Inc. (MEA) is an Alaska-based utility founded in 1941 and positioned as the state’s oldest existing and second-largest electric cooperative. It serves a broad geographic area spanning more than 4,300 miles of power lines, with a service footprint that reaches from Trapper Creek to the Matanuska Glacier and south to Eagle River, under a member-owned governance model reflective of its cooperative structure. The organization operates a vertically integrated system that includes generation, transmission, and distribution, and has operated the Eklutna Generation Station, a 171 megawatt natural gas facility, since 2015, enabling greater internal control over its energy supply.
