Founded in 1977, MTI is a nonprofit organization advancing materials technology for the process industries. It sponsors projects that develop new technologies and transfer existing knowledge to day-to-day practice through practical, non-proprietary studies. The scope includes evaluating materials (metallic and non-metallic), design options, fabrication, testing, inspection, and performance of vessels, tanks, piping, and related components, with attention to fitness-for-service, mechanical integrity, life-cycle considerations, and economic factors. Based in St. Louis, Missouri, MTI serves organizations in the chemical manufacturing sector and other process industries seeking robust materials performance and reliable guidance. A notable recent development is the February 2026 appointment of Philip Song as Associate Director for the AsiaTAC region.
