Maymont is a 100-acre institution in Richmond, Virginia, developed as a Gilded Age estate overlooking the James River and opened to the public in 1926. It provides free admission and features walking paths through landscaped gardens, a petting farm, and the Virginia Wildlife Trail with habitats for rescued native animals. The site offers guided and self-guided tours of the 1893 Maymont Mansion, as well as historic estate buildings and gardens, and hosts the Run of the River experience in the Robins Nature Center. Since 1975, the Maymont Foundation has stewarded the property as a nonprofit dedicated to education and inspiration, welcoming more than 800,000 guests annually and consistently ranked among the region’s top attractions. In 2025 Maymont launched Porcupettes Up Close, a behind-the-scenes experience adding a new dimension to its wildlife programming.
