Manzanita Charter Middle School is a public cooperative charter school in the West Contra Costa Unified School District. Located in Richmond's Hilltop neighborhood, near Pinole, Hercules and El Sobrante, Manzanita is designed to educate middle school students whose parents and guardians value participation in their student's learning. We opened our doors in the fall of 2000 with one class of 6th and 7th graders. We now serve 156 students in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades with a maximum of 26 students per class. - Public: We are free of charge and funded by the State of California. - Cooperative: We are made up of families who are involved in virtually every aspect of running our school. - Charter: We are governed by our Charter Document (available for review at http://www.manzy.org/Documents.shtml ) Our Mission and Vision Through active family involvement in self-governed public education, Manzanita Charter MiddleSchool (a cooperative charter), seeks to create a safe, nurturing, and diverse educational community for our children. Our vision is to prepare students academically and socially to be well-rounded individuals who contribute positively to themselves, their families, the community, and our world.
