MBFC is a private, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization licensed by the U.S. Small Business Administration as a certified development company that focuses on SBA 504 financing and commercial lending. The organization began in 1983 as Opportunities Minnesota Inc. (OMNI), a division of the Minnesota Department of Trade and Economic Development, became a quasi-public agency in 1993, and was privatized and renamed Minnesota Business Finance Corporation in 1996. MBFC handles all SBA 504 approvals, closings, and loan servicing, and provides on-site travel to clients across the region for lending needs. The organization has received industry recognition, including a 2023 Lender of the Year award, and reports annual revenue in the range of $100 million to $250 million.
