MCWB Architects has evolved through eight decades to become a leader in the field of Architecture, Preservation and Planning. Located in Albany New York and Williamsburg Virginia, two of the oldest historic capital cites on the continent, we are rooted in the long and rich architectural heritage of the nation. Our preservation projects span from first period settlements to modern masterpieces. This cumulative experience provides the knowledge base and sensitivity to preserve and restore, and to design new buildings and additions in context, whether in a modern idiom or accurately detailed period styles. The firm's projects include eminent National Historic Landmarks such as Monticello (Thomas Jefferson), Mount Vernon (George Washington), Montpelier (James Madison), New York State Capitol, Maryland State House, Vermont State House, and Tennessee State House. Our clients include many of the country’s premier educational institutions; The University of Virginia, Cornell University, Florida Southern College, The College of William and Mary, Williams College, Hampden-Sydney College, Syracuse University, Hamilton College and more. Most projects at these campuses involve restoration of premier buildings and design of new buildings in significant historical contexts. These projects present the most sensitive historical and cultural challenges and are extraordinarily complex. Central to our practice is a process of intense research, documentation, integrated analysis, creative problem solving, and elegance of design. We build teams with appropriate specialized consultants to address the needs of each project, and we work closely with clients to accommodate programs within budgets. Client satisfaction with our services is evident in the longevity of our relationships, often spanning decades through multiple projects and phases.
