Media Design School is New Zealand’s most awarded tertiary institute for digital and creative technology qualifications. The school is currently ranked amongst the top 3 schools in the world to provide VFX/Animation and Game Development qualifications by the Autodesk sponsored CG Student Awards. Better yet, in 2016, MDS was recognised as the world’s top tertiary provider for both Graphic Design and Photography by The Rookies' panel of internationally renowned judges, making it one of the best digital design tertiary providers globally. 

MDS is the only school in New Zealand to have partnered with Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s PlayStation First Academic Development Programme, giving our students the opportunity to develop games for the PlayStation platform and evidences industry recognition of the quality of our programmes. 

It is also currently Unity Technology’s first and only Training and Certification Partner in New Zealand, which means that all future graduates of the Bachelor of Creative Technologies and the Bachelor of Software Engineering will have the opportunity to graduate as Unity Certified Developers.

In October 2016, MDS became the first tertiary provider in New Zealand to offer a qualification
with a dedicated stream focusing on two of the world’s biggest emerging technologies: Virtual Reality
and Augmented Reality (VR/AR).
