MEDICC is a nonprofit organization based in Oakland, California, founded in 1997 to advance US–C Cuba health collaboration and promote global health equity and universal health coverage. The group focuses on sharing Cuban public health practices and health-system insights through multiple channels, including documentary work, an open-access English-language journal, study exchanges for policymakers and practitioners, and a national network of US communities mobilized around health equity. Its activities aim to connect US, Cuban, and global health institutions and to support US students and graduates of Havana’s Latin American School of Medicine in returning to practice in provider-shortage areas, thereby fostering greater health cooperation between the two countries. MEDICC participates in a broader international effort to improve health outcomes by highlighting Cuba’s contributions to public health and by facilitating mutual learning and collaboration across borders.
