The Merced County Office of Education is a public education administration organization based in Merced, California. It serves Merced County's 20 school districts and more than 55,000 K-12 students of diverse abilities by providing support for curriculum and instruction, career and alternative education, business services, technology, special education and teacher credentialing. The organization employs several hundred staff and operates programs to promote early childhood learning, including Head Start and Early Head Start for young children and their families. In 2021, MCOE partnered with Ten Strands, an environmental education organization, to develop climate change and environmental justice curriculum for California's K-12 schools, with the curriculum slated for release in July 2025. This collaboration highlights MCOE's involvement in broader educational initiatives beyond its immediate district services.
