The Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society (MRFRS) is a Salisbury, Massachusetts-based veterinary services nonprofit focused on improving the lives of cats and supporting the people who care for them. Since its founding in 1992 in response to a large population of free-roaming cats along the Merrimack River, MRFRS has pursued a model that includes trapping, neutering, and returning feral cats, feeding and monitoring them, and expanding access to spay and neuter services through its Catmobile program and feral clinics. The organization operates an adoption center capable of housing up to about 60 cats and kittens, runs a feral cat program, hosts monthly Sunday spay/neuter clinics, and offers a foster program, veterinary assistance for owned cats, and emergency boarding for cats whose owners face difficult circumstances. Through its programs, MRFRS aims to reduce feline overpopulation and improve animal welfare, serving communities across Eastern and Central Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire through both in-person services and mobile operations.
