A Native American-owned business (Lumbee) was founded in 1999 in Pembroke, NC. Metcon, which stands for (Metal and Construction), was conceived as a General Contractor specializing in panelized metal studs and truss. In our infancy Metcon worked primarily on housing and related panelized projects throughout the Carolinas. Metcon quickly transitioned into a full-service commercial general contracting operation still incorporating metal-framed systems whenever possible.  
 
Metcon has also been an industry leader in the research, development, and construction of Energy Positive Buildings that generate more energy than they consume.  Metcon built the 1st Energy Positive building in the Carolinas, the 1st energy positive building for a public utility in America, and the 1st Privatized Energy Positive School in America. Today is the National Leader in the construction of these elite sustainable facilities.
 
Today Metcon remains Headquartered in Pembroke, N.C. with regional offices in Raleigh, Charlotte and Fayetteville, North Carolina, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and most recently Greensboro, and Kings Mountain, North Carolina. With over 1,000 successful project completions, Metcon delivers construction management and design-build services for higher education, K-12, medical, corporate, and government entities throughout the East Coast.  Due to our proven success, Metcon was recognized by the U.S. Department of Commerce as the 2011 and 2013 U.S. Minority Construction Firm of the Year and more recently  Metcon Education Projects were recognized as the Best in the U.S. by Engineering News and Record for 2013, 2016, and again in 2018.
