The School of Arts and Culture at MHP is a nonprofit cultural organization based in San Jose, California, operating within the broader context of the Mexican Heritage Plaza complex. Founded as part of a community-driven effort to reimagine the East San Jose cultural landscape, it offers after-school and summer programs in visual and performing arts and serves as a multicultural venue for community programs that explore Mexican artistic traditions alongside intercultural expression. The organization also houses the Multicultural Arts Leadership Institute, a leadership program for people of color active in the arts and cultural sector, contributing to community empowerment through creative engagement. Its activities place it in the nonprofit sector focused on arts education and cultural programming, with a mission to catalyze creativity and strengthen local communities. A notable recent development includes formal partnership with the International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts and Tourism (IGCAT) announced in 2026, reflecting ongoing collaboration and expanded cultural networks. The facility’s location in the Mayfair area of east San Jose situates it within a historically Mexican American neighborhood, continuing a legacy tied to local labor history and community planning initiated in the late 1990s.
