The Mexican Institute of Greater Houston is a small, Houston-based nonprofit founded in 1991 and registered as a 501(c)(3). It operates in the field of education administration programs, offering basic computer technology courses aimed at Hispanic parents to support family advancement through education. By boosting parental educational attainment, the organization seeks to improve participants’ social and economic prospects and encourage their leadership within families and communities. Over its history, the institute has extended its reach beyond Houston to Beaumont, Port Arthur, and San Antonio, and in 2011 began serving Dallas County through Garland ISD and Irving ISD. The program has generated more than 9,000 graduates over ten years and operates through more than 175 community learning centers, targeting underserved Hispanic families with computer literacy and workforce-relevant skills.
