Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union (MSGCU) operates as a not-for-profit financial cooperative that provides banking services to its members. Headquartered in Clinton Township, Michigan, it serves a broad field of membership that includes educational and government employees, students and alumni, retirees, and residents of the lower peninsula. The organization was founded in 1954 by a small group of Macomb County teachers, originally as Macomb Schools and Government Credit Union. Today it serves more than 130,000 members, holds more than $2 billion in assets, and operates 17 branches. As a not-for-profit, MSGCU aims to return value to members through favorable loan terms and higher savings rates, and it is federally insured by the NCUA with Equal Housing Lender status. In 2026, MSGCU announced partnerships with Gleaners Community Food Bank and the ChadTough Defeat DIPG Foundation to support community initiatives.
