The Michigan State Fair has a rich history dating back to 1849, when it became one of the first statewide fairs in the country. For more than a century, it was held at Eight Mile and Woodward in Detroit, until 2009 when the event was paused due to state budget constraints. But great traditions don’t fade—they evolve. In 2013, thanks to a new private model, and the local leaders and elders in the state agriculture industry, the Michigan State Fair was reborn at Vibe Credit Union Showplace, formerly known as Suburban Collection Showplace, in Novi—without taxpayer funding and with strong community and corporate support. Since then, it’s continued to grow, expanding its grounds and offerings every year, while celebrating Michigan’s deep agricultural roots and vibrant business spirit. Today, the Michigan State Fair honors our great state’s farming heritage, supports small business and entrepreneurship, and delivers unforgettable experiences for families from all over the state. Best of all? It does so with a major positive economic impact—and zero cost to taxpayers. Whether you’re enjoying the livestock and agriculture attractions, sampling your favorite fair food, checking out local vendors, or soaking in the live shows and entertainment, the fair is filled with family fun, cherished memories, and a true celebration of all things Michigan.
