Michigan Youth In Government is a State YMCA program in which nearly 2,000 high school & middle school students learn first hand about politics, state governmental processes and how the judicial system operates. It has been recognized by Governor Rick Snyder, former Governor Jennifer Granholm, former Governor John Engler, former Governor James J. Blanchard, former President Gerald R. Ford, and several other state and national leaders in government and business. Students interested in the politics of governmental and legislative processes engage in activities related to those fields. They campaign for house and senate seats, and the office of governor. They propose, sponsor, and garner support for legislation involving issues of current interest. In addition, students interested in journalism follow the campaigns closely, track the proposed legislation, conduct candidate interviews, and publish all the late breaking political news to the student body.
