Midwest Reliability Organization (MRO) is a regional body focused on the reliability and security of the North American bulk power system. It monitors and enforces compliance with mandatory standards for entities that own, operate, or use the interconnected grid, conducts assessments of the region’s ability to meet electricity demand, and analyzes regional system events. The MRO region covers Saskatchewan and Manitoba and parts of Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, and Wisconsin, encompassing more than 225 organizations involved in electricity production and delivery. It also provides an open forum for stakeholder experts to discuss risk and reliability improvements in grid operations. Based in St. Paul, Minnesota, MRO serves a broad set of customers including municipal utilities, cooperatives, investor-owned utilities, transmission system operators, federal power marketing agencies, Canadian Crown Corporations, and independent power producers.
