The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan is a cabinet-level government ministry charged with managing the country’s foreign relations and diplomacy. Based in Tokyo, it operates within the international affairs arena, engaging with other governments and international organizations to advance Japan’s interests and foster international cooperation. Its remit includes shaping and implementing Japan’s foreign policy as well as consular functions and related international engagement. It maintains an active international presence, illustrated by participation in events such as the Asia Energy Security Seminar 2026. The ministry also conducts international cooperation through policy initiatives and bilateral or multilateral engagements, including visa policy changes with other countries. In October 2025, MOFA participated in the UMAC 2025 conference in Tokyo, where it signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on humanitarian demining with Ukraine’s ministry, implemented through JICA.
