MSD combines policy development—such as research and evaluation—with service delivery and corporate support, including Work and Income, and services for students, seniors, and integrity. The department operates across more than 300 locations nationwide. MSD is based in Wellington, in the Wellington region, and functions as a large public-sector organization with a broad portfolio that includes policy work, service delivery, and internal support functions. It has partnered with Ara since its inception to connect its jobseeker network with employers.
