The Minnehaha Creek Watershed District is a regional government entity based in Minnetonka, Minnesota, tasked with managing and protecting the water resources of the Minnehaha Creek Watershed west of Minneapolis. Created in 1967 under the Minnesota Watershed District Act, it reflects the understanding that hydrologic boundaries do not align with political boundaries. The district covers roughly 178 square miles and ultimately drains into Minnehaha Creek and the Mississippi River; within its area lie eight major creeks, 129 lakes, and thousands of wetlands.
