The Minnesota Sinfonia is a professional chamber orchestra based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, established in 1989 by artistic director Jay Fishman. It operates with a mission to serve the musical and educational needs of Minnesota residents, placing particular emphasis on families with young children, inner-city youth, seniors, and individuals with limited financial means. The organization differentiates itself in the orchestral landscape by offering all performances with free admission and by dedicating a significant portion of its activities to educational outreach, including a program that brings music into inner-city schools. Each year, the Sinfonia sustains a busy schedule of concerts—performing up to 80 free-admission chamber works in venues around the Twin Cities and in schools through its Music in the Schools program. The ensemble operates within the nonprofit cultural sector and maintains a visible presence in the Minneapolis–Saint Paul area through ongoing concerts and educational initiatives.
