Its academic and research activities are organized into five primary divisions: Architecture, Urban Studies and Planning, the Media Lab, the Center for Real Estate, and the Program in Art, Culture and Technology. The school also hosts the Norman B. Leventhal Center for Advanced Urbanism, the Center for Bits and Atoms, and the MIT Morningside Academy for Design. Serving MIT's students and researchers across architecture, urban planning, real estate, media, and related disciplines, the school partners with external stakeholders on urban and design initiatives. Its interdisciplinary orientation and affiliated centers place it within the higher education landscape as a venue for research and education at the intersection of built environments, technology, and culture. The school is based in Cambridge and operates as a relatively small academic unit within MIT.
