Moderna Museet is a Swedish museum dedicated to modern and contemporary art, with activities that include collecting, preserving, sharing, and exhibiting works from the early 20th century onward, including photography from 1840. The institution emphasizes an open and experimental approach, prioritizing the presence of art and artists and fostering dialogue with an actively participating audience. Its collection features major works by Duchamp, Louise Bourgeois, Picasso, Meret Oppenheim, Dalí, Eva Hesse, and others, alongside contemporary artists such as Karin Mamma Andersson, Yinka Shonibare, Paul McCarthy, Annika von Hausswolff, and Sirous Namazi. Moderna Museet operates in two cities, Stockholm and Malmö, and was founded in 1958; its Stockholm location is on Skeppsholmen in central Stockholm. In addition to its permanent collection, the museum organizes temporary exhibitions and hosts learning activities and events to engage audiences. In mid-2026, Tone Hansen was appointed director of Moderna Museet in Stockholm.
