Moon Mayoras Architects, Inc. (MMA) specializes in functional, elegant, and caring architecture for health. The firm was founded on a vision to re-shape the healthcare experience from a traditionally loud, maze-like, and sterile smelling institution into a soothing and secure environment that fosters comfort and promotes healing. Our principals were among the pioneers in the creation of the therapeutic environment through intelligent design, where the architecture of a hospital itself enhances the healing process. Through the use of evidence-based strategies, our designs contribute to a patient’s well-being and eliminate environmental stresses that can impede the healing process. We strive to design medical facilities that provide patients, their families, and hospital staff a sense of familiarity and control, essential elements to a therapeutic environment.

When it comes to hospitals, one size does not fit all. Every MMA design is customized to fit the unique needs, budgets, and schedules of our clients. Our designers interview patients, caregivers, administrators, and the surrounding community, asking probing questions about their relation to the hospital, experiences, likes, aversions, requirements, desires, and suggestions to develop a list of goals, priorities, and the costs associated with each suggested improvement. From these interviews, our designers integrate the various and sometimes divergent perspectives both within the hospital and in the surrounding community into ideas, alternatives, and design approaches that address and optimize stakeholder concerns, and ultimately materialize their vision.
