Morton Public Library is a public library located at 315 West Pershing Street, Morton, Illinois, operating within the libraries industry. The library employs between 11 and 50 people and serves Morton residents as a member of the Reaching Across Illinois Library System (RAILS). Its mission is to actively connect people to books, resources, and technology and to provide opportunities for learning, collaboration, and enjoyment. Service to the community began in 1922, organized by the Semper Fidelis club of Morton Community United Church of Christ, and it became tax-supported in 1925; the library is governed by an elected seven-member board. The current building was designed by Don Westlake and built by Diversified Buildings, Inc.; it opened in 1982 with 9,500 square feet, a 9,700-square-foot addition followed in 1998, Hannah's Reading Garden was installed in 2015, and a 2018 Refresh project updated interior finishes, relocated children's services to the back to consolidate the collection and add 700 square feet, created a dedicated teen/young adult area, and added an extra meeting room; the library launched Book Valet Service in June 2020.
