Mountain Parks Foundation is a small nonprofit established in 1973 as one of the first California State Park Cooperating Associations, operating in partnership with California State Parks to support visitor education and enrichment at Henry Cowell and Big Basin Redwoods State Parks. The organization funds interpretive programs, nature and cultural history events, visitor and nature centers, staff, and materials used by volunteers and docents to broaden park experiences and support conservation. It has been acknowledged for effective collaboration with state parks, including governance and volunteer engagement. It serves more than 1.5 million park visitors annually, including about 200 student classes, and is based in Felton, California. Recent developments include a partnership with Stanford Medicine to develop the Redwood Rx program, and a collaboration with California State Parks to offer wellness activities within several parks as part of that initiative.
