Moving in the Spirit operates a youth development program through dance that has earned national recognition and aims to positively transform the lives of children and teens in Atlanta. The model blends high-quality dance instruction with opportunities in performance, leadership, and mentorship to help participants develop social, emotional, and cognitive skills.
It is based in Atlanta, Georgia, and operates a new performing arts center adjacent to the MARTA rail line as part of the Edgewood neighborhood’s transit-oriented development. Since its founding in 1986, the organization has served more than 5,000 young people, with students on average staying in the program for about seven years, and all seniors graduating on time and gaining college acceptance.
