MPI-CBG, the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics, is based in Dresden, Saxony, and was founded in 1998 as part of the Max Planck Society. It conducts basic research in molecular cell biology and genetics, with a focus on how cells form tissues and how tissue morphology emerges from molecular and cellular interactions. Research programs span scales from molecular assemblies and organelles to tissues, organs, and whole organisms, with the aim of linking tissue-level organization to molecular activity. The institute maintains substantial services and facilities to enable researchers to access sophisticated technologies and to develop new methods necessary for its work. 

In collaboration with Technische Universität Dresden, MPI-CBG hosts the International Max Planck Research School for Cell, Developmental, and Systems Biology (IMPRS-CellDevoSys), a structured four-year PhD program. It supports a diverse, cross-disciplinary community of scientists representing multiple nationalities.
