Mt. Airy Learning Tree (MALT) is a community-centered educational program based in Philadelphia's Northwest neighborhood. Founded in 1980, it promotes informal, adult learning by bringing neighbors together to share ideas, information, and skills in a wide range of courses that reflect the community's backgrounds and concerns. Courses are held in local venues such as churches, schools, businesses, homes, and outdoor spaces in Wissahickon and other local points of interest, illustrating a flexible, community-grounded approach. Each year, MALT offers more than 200 courses across the fall, winter, and spring terms. Topics span from Art to Zumba, and instructors share their passions and talents with other adults while emphasizing community building. The organization serves residents of Northwest Philadelphia and operates across multiple nearby settings, underscoring its role as a locally focused, informal education provider.
