Founded in 1975, Mt. Savage Specialty Refractories began as a supplier of dry specialty products from our original plant in Mt. Savage, Maryland. Initially focused on conventional and insulating castables, we expanded in the 1980s to include plastics, mortars, cast shapes, and a wide range of refractory materials, establishing ourselves as a full-service supplier to the industrial market. As demand grew, our Mt. Savage plant expanded to offer fast, efficient service for both small orders and mixed truckloads—all at competitive prices. In the 1990s, we introduced significant technological advancements, including self-leveling low cement castables and refractory shotcrete mixes. In 2001, we acquired a second facility in Curwensville, Pennsylvania, to support the production of these high-tech products. This move solidified our leadership in low cement and shotcrete mixes, with further growth driven by the introduction of low cement gun mixes in the early 2000s. In 2024, we streamlined operations by consolidating into a single facility at our Curwensville, PA location. With substantial investments in plant upgrades and the addition of two new production lines, we are now fully equipped to manufacture our entire product portfolio at this high-capacity facility. Today, Mt. Savage Specialty Refractories remains committed to delivering high-quality, innovative refractory products with a focus on exceptional service and competitive pricing. Contact your Mt.
