Mujeres Unidas y Activas (MUA) is a political organization led by Latina and Indigenous immigrant women dedicated to social and economic justice by growing personal and community power. Its leadership development model trains members to plan and implement programs and to take on leadership roles within the organization's work. Described as a national model for Latina immigrant empowerment and organizing, MUA emphasizes a healthy, sustainable grassroots, membership-driven structure. Through leadership development and the creation of local, state, and national coalitions, MUA has built a political base that enables Latina immigrants to advocate on their own behalf and influence lives in the Bay Area and beyond. Based in San Francisco, California, the organization operates as a small to mid-sized group with a broad reach across local communities. In 2022, MUA partnered with Somos Familia Bay and other community organizations to train staff, volunteers, and members on how to better support LGBTQ+ Latinx people and their families.
