The Multi-State Lottery Association is a nonprofit government-benefit organization governed by its member lotteries. It coordinates a set of shared lottery games for participating states, with member lotteries offering one or more MUSL-administered games. Profits stay with the individual lotteries and are used to fund projects approved by the legislature that authorizes each lottery. The organization was established in 1987 and is based in Urbandale, Iowa. Powerball, launched in 1992, is MUSL's flagship game and has become the leading lottery game in the United States. In 2026, MUSL announced partnerships to extend Powerball's reach internationally, including an agreement with Allwyn UK to bring Powerball to the United Kingdom.
