MOCA is a New York City-based museum and cultural institution focused on preserving and presenting the history, heritage, and experiences of Chinese Americans. It accomplishes this through exhibitions, educational programs, public events, and archival work that document living history and culture. Founded in 1980 as a grassroots effort by students, community activists, and historians to preserve New York City's Chinatown, MOCA has grown into a leading institution in its field. It is based in New York City and has been recognized as one of America's Cultural Treasures, a designation reflecting its role in representing heritage communities in American culture. In June 2024, MOCA announced the launch of programming for Interior Chinatown by Charles Yu, featuring dramatized scenes performed by local Asian American actors.
