The Mushroom Council is a voluntary coalition of fresh-market mushroom producers and importers who collectively produce or import more than 500,000 pounds of mushrooms annually. The council's program is authorized by the Mushroom Promotion, Research and Consumer Information Act of 1990 and operates under the supervision of the Agricultural Marketing Service. It administers research and promotional activities intended to expand, sustain, and develop markets for mushrooms in the United States and overseas, funded by the industry groups it serves. Based in Lake Lotawana, Missouri, it operates with a small staff. In March 2025, the council participated in the International Pizza Expo in Las Vegas to connect with manufacturers, menu developers and restaurateurs about the rising demand for fresh mushrooms on pizzas.
