Nadia's Initiative is a survivor-led nonprofit dedicated to translating lived experience into lasting systems change to empower survivors of conflict-related sexual violence in shaping justice and recovery. In Sinjar, Iraq, the Yazidi homeland devastated by ISIS, the organization has spent almost a decade rebuilding with survivors, restoring healthcare, education, water access, livelihoods and cultural life through institutions designed and owned by the community. At the same time, it works at the highest levels of international policy to advance accountability, contributing to the passage of UN Security Council resolutions, pursuit of ISIS convictions under universal jurisdiction, and the development of reparations frameworks in Iraq and Ukraine. The Murad Code guides how investigators document survivor testimony worldwide, reflecting survivor knowledge embedded into durable systems.
The two tracks reinforce one another: community-driven recovery provides evidence that strengthens global advocacy, while international frameworks accelerate local progress. Based in Washington, D.C., Nadia's Initiative operates as a small to mid-sized nonprofit and is evolving into a global platform for survivor-led change; a notable recent development is its October 2025 partnership with Chain of Hope Europe to complete the Sinjar French Medical Center.
