In an effort to respond to the need for children’s services in New Mexico, mental health professionals who were committed to the Attachment Model of Treatment founded Namaste Child and Family Development Center in 1989, in Tome, New Mexico.  Later, Namaste Treatment Foster Care (TFC) Program expanded into other regions throughout New Mexico in order to keep children as close to their primary community as possible during treatment.  Namaste now provides Attachment Model-based TFC and outpatient therapy services to emotionally disturbed children and their families from eight offices in New Mexico: Los Lunas, Albuquerque, Gallup, Farmington, Santa Fe, Taos, Las Vegas, and Roswell.  Namaste’s client population consists of children who have trouble in attaching to others, resulting in multiple problems for the child at home, at school, and in the community.  Behaviors frequently addressed in treatment include aggression, depression, lack of conscience and empathy for others, resistance to adult care, and inability to take responsibility for their actions.  Namaste works with behavior problems by addressing the underlying attachment difficulties that drive those behaviors.  The goal of TFC is for children to form trusting relationships with adults, practice new behaviors, and experience success.  Namaste’s mission is to provide children and families opportunities to heal through the development of trusting relationships.  Namaste aims to provide high quality care that is research-based, developmentally appropriate, culturally respectful, and oriented towards measurable outcomes.  Statewide, an executive director who is accountable to a voluntary board of directors governs Namaste’s administrative affairs.
