The National Academy of Engineering (NAE) is a private, independent nonprofit based in Washington, DC, founded in 1964. It advances the well-being of the nation by promoting a vibrant engineering profession and by marshalling the expertise of eminent engineers to provide independent advice to the federal government on issues involving engineering and technology. With a membership of more than 2,000 peer-elected and international engineers from business, academia, and government, the NAE leads projects at the intersection of engineering, technology, and quality of life. It operates within the public policy arena as part of The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. In 2025, the organization announced the appointment of Tsu-Jae King Liu as its president.
